CrimeNet in LazyTown - Chapter 7

The bots had been causing such chaos in LazyTown, going as far as to sabotage every plan Mayor Meanswell had for sports events — much to the children's dismay — it seemed as if they were unstoppable. However, the most peculiar thing was happening. Every time RoboCrook was near Roboticus, he felt as if his circuitry would overheat and his mechanisms would stutter — not that he minded. He searched his databases, trying to figure out what this could mean.

Every result was the same, it kept coming up with… love. The bot’s brow furrowed. Had he even been programmed with that feeling? Or was it a leftover from when he was human?

Carmen looked at RoboCrook, before turning her attention to Robbie. “It’s strange, isn’t it?”

“Hmm?”

“Every time those two are together, RoboCrook ends up nearly short-circuiting.”

Robbie chuckled. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say they’re in love. Or at least your RoboCrook Unit is.”

Carmen smiled. “I’m not sure that’s possible, but it is kind of cute.”

Roboticus had been listening to the conversation. He had been feeling something when around RoboCrook as well. He turned, looking at his companion in crime, watching him as he seemed to be staring at the wall, busy scanning his databases.

“RoboCrook Unit 059…” Roboticus spoke. “What information are you processing?”

RoboCrook turned to him, and sure enough, as their eyes met, a loud whirring sound could be heard coming from him, and – oh. Those were sparks.

“RoboCrook Unit 059, I think you’re malfunctioning.” Roboticus reached out, gently placing a hand on the fellow bot's shoulder.

“Temperature… too high… shutdown imminent.”

Carmen leapt up from where she had been sitting, running over to RoboCrook and – through a series of key sequences – shut him down before any damage could be done by the temperature shutdown.

Roboticus looked at her.

“I’m going to have to leave him shut down for a few days.” she mused, more to herself than the large bot to her right. She looked at Roboticus. “It looks like you’re going to have to cause some chaos alone for a while.”

The bot didn’t reply; he merely stared at the unresponsive RoboCrook in front of him.

Heading back over to Robbie, Carmen sat down near him. “I think your Roboticus is sad.”

Robbie glanced over. “Impossible, robots can’t feel those things.”

“It depends.” the villainess replied. “In RoboCrook’s case, he was human once. What he’s feeling is a leftover from then… I don’t have the heart to get rid of that emotion from him. Maybe Roboticus has some sort of upgrade that makes him feel love. You did say earlier you upgraded him a bit several months ago, yeah?”

Robbie seemed shocked at that. “Maybe, but still… it just seems off.”

Carmen shrugged. “I feel kind of bad for the big guy. Look at him. Just staring at RoboCrook like that.”
